Wisconsin Educators Offered an Opportunity to
Visit  U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.

Middle and High School educators from public, private and sectarian school settings are encouraged to apply to participate in an educational training program that includes a one-day trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. The Milwaukee Jewish Council for Community Relations sponsors the program, in cooperation with the Coalition for Jewish Learning Holocaust Education and Resource Center.

The Wisconsin Educators U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Trip and Educational Seminar is designed to provide participants with accessibility to educational resource materials related to the Holocaust as well as the opportunity to visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.  The goal of the project is to expand Wisconsin educators’ knowledge and ability to effectively teach students about the Holocaust, as well as its universal and contemporary implications.

The one-day trip is scheduled for Monday, October 16, 2006. The program includes a pre-trip orientation program on Sunday, October 15, round-trip air transportation from Milwaukee to Washington DC, a full day at the museum, and a post-trip seminar on Friday, November 10, 2006. The cost to participate is $100.  Accepted applicants must agree to participate in all three components of the project and prepare an action plan designed to use the new information and resources.

The target population for this year’s program is new and emerging teachers although all applications will receive full consideration by the selection committee.  Particularly encouraged to apply are classroom teachers with less than 3 years of experience, undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in education programs and department chairs, curriculum specialists, instructional media coordinators, and administrators with responsibility for secular subjects including but not limited to language arts, history and social studies.  Every effort will be made to insure a broad geographic and demographic representation of Wisconsin teachers.  The program is limited to participants.

The trip is made possible through a generous grant from the Helen Bader Foundation, Inc.  The deadline for applications is September 7, 2006. To receive an application and program information, please contact Jeri Danz at jerid@milwaukeejewish.org or call 414-390-5781.
